In April 2016 a report published by  Ignite Research  found that:

  • Irish businesses are still not engaging in e-commerce, despite the majority of Irish consumers buying and transacting online.
  • 1 in 6 Irish SMEs, or 17%, still have no website, social media account, or any online presence whatsoever.  With 35% of those saying that they didn’t have enough time to build one and 9% said they lacked expertise
  • 71% of Irish consumers find it “extremely frustrating” when a business is not online and 3 in 4 say they are more likely to purchase from a business that is online.
  • Irish consumers spend over €6.5 billions online every year but only 29% of Irish SME’s can take sales orders online and only 25% can process payments online.
  • Three out of four consumers say that they are more likely to purchase from a business that has an online presence.

There is also huge amount of businesses that are using old websites that look outdated and are using obsolete technologies.  Not all websites are currently mobile friendly (responsive). With Google changing its algorithms to a mobile-first approach, it is imperative for companies to update their websites if they want to get a decent ranking on search engines.
